Grace Abounds

Louise Harris

My grace is sufficient for you.
(2 Corinthians 12:9)

This wonderful and comforting phrase from Corinthians came into my head several days ago and just seemed to settle there.

I have been feeling the strain of carrying a heavy load recently and, if I’m honest,  buckling under the strain. When we carry on and carry on, sometimes in our own strength which is never a good idea but so easy to do, eventually the stresses accumulate and something has to give.

The good news is that God’s grace abounds we need it the most. The next part of the passage says it the best: his strength is made perfect in our weakness. That probably looks different in individual circumstances and I’m wondering how God will reveal that in the times ahead but I know one thing for sure - it’s a promise.

Thinking about Grace, what actually is it? The usual response would be that it is undeserved favour or God’s riches at Christ’s expense. Both totally true but it’s more, it’s also the spirit of God working in us to regenerate and strengthen us.

What good news for those of us who are weary, he gives us the power for living and the endurance required. That said he also compels, enables and provides for us to rest on the journey. In my case,  some time out has come unexpectedly and just when I need it the most. I’m a little scared but immensely grateful.

We can draw near to the throne of God, it’s called the throne of Grace and we are encouraged to draw near with confidence, knowing we will find mercy and help in times of need.

Finally his grace is sufficient, he is enough and will supply our needs, his grace won’t ever run out.
