Waiting For God

Ian Revie

Those who wait upon God get fresh strength. They spread their wings and soar like eagles, They run and don’t get tired, they walk and don’t lag behind. ‭‭
Isaiah‬ ‭40‬:‭31 (‭MSG‬)

We had a recent reflection session in our house group, where we all felt that we were in the same place: in God’s waiting room. Waiting for some next steps in our joint journey of faith.

It made me think a bit further about God’s timing vs our timing and how often we feel that we are “Waiting for God” - and not in the way that the 80’s TV series describes the care home!

When we accept that God’s timing is perfect - we no longer sit in the waiting room. We serve in God’s Kingdom.

In that posture of serving & exploring God’s purpose, we know that His timing & our experiences with Him take us into the next steps of our journey of faith - and in so doing, when we understand Him through His Word, there is no waiting only a strengthening of our faith.

It’s a bit of a conundrum - we all talk about waiting and also talk about serving, so I am unsure why my personal focus has become one of waiting - so what is going on?

● Active Trust and Faith:
Waiting on God isn't passive; it's an active process of trusting in His plan and seeking His guidance through prayer, scripture, and seeking wisdom from others.

● Patience and Endurance:
It involves patiently enduring difficulties, knowing that God's timing is perfect and that He will ultimately fulfil

● Seeking Spiritual Strength:
Waiting on God can renew your strength and bring serenity and stability, as you trust in His guidance and power.

● God's Sovereignty:
Acknowledging God's sovereign control of all things and coming to terms with our dependence on Him is a key aspect of waiting on the Lord.

I conclude it is probably a habit to talk about waiting & the inference it has in our daily activities, but waiting on God is a very different activity!

God doesn’t come and go. God lasts. He’s Creator of all you can see or imagine. He doesn’t get tired out, doesn’t pause to catch his breath. And he knows everything, inside and out. He energizes those who get tired, gives fresh strength to dropouts. For even young people tire and drop out, young folk in their prime stumble and fall. But those who wait upon God get fresh strength. They spread their wings and soar like eagles, They run and don’t get tired, they walk and don’t lag behind.
Isaiah‬ ‭40‬:‭28-‭3‬1 (‭MSG‬)
