In Our Everyday

Joy Revie

Sometimes I have felt that it's only the big things in my life that I should ‘bother’ God with - choosing a life partner, career, job change, relocation, family crisis, illness, bereavement, divorce. Here, my eyes are fixed on Him for these bigger things - it's intense and there is a real sense of being carried... like the Footprints in the Sand imagery.

But does God only require my focus and my Yes at these times?

Recently I have been challenged about my everyday alignment with Him. My submission in the everyday rhythms of life. Do I feel that my daily life is too mundane, too ordinary to bother Him with? Far from it...

I was really struck with Helen Francis' reflection recently when she shared her experience of praying for the weather to improve so she could have a good ferry trip to Orkney. God did not change the weather but gave her peace instead to overcome her fear!

So that encouraged me to try and align myself with Him at every opportunity; to dedicate my day to Him as I made a morning coffee, to celebrate His provision as I do the shopping, declare His Kingdom over my neighbourhood as I drive through, and show His love to those around me as I interact with them. How can I move into a new season, or step into deeper things if I can't ensure surrendering my everyday to Him?

This is not our world's culture. It requires a change of thinking; a renewing of the mind which is deliberate and focused. Perhaps turning off our devices for a while to allow His voice and thoughts to get through in the stillness

Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you, but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total reformation of how you think. This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in his eyes.
Romans 12:2 (The Passion Translation)

We have been created in his image, given permission to set atmospheres rather than blend in or be affected by them. To speak bold truth rather than worrying about the status quo.

His divine power has granted us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us into his own glory and excellence.
2 Peter 1:3 (ESV)

Mind Blowing really, that this God who created all things, gave his beloved sinless son to die for us, so that we could have an intimate relationship with Him. Not just for the big things, but all day, everyday. In the big and the small of our lives.

How Great is Our God indeed!
