Look Up
Louise Harris
A few days ago, I was on my weekly commute to Wakefield.
It's a tedious journey at the best of times and I was groaning as I set off in the dark, moaning to my Heavenly Father (again) along the lines of: “I'm too old for all of this!”
However, as I turned on to the M1 going South, there was the most beautiful sunrise right in front of me. It was absolutely breathtaking: pink and amber tones across the horizon, with streaks of bright white light. My immediate reaction was “Wow Lord, thank you, this is stunning!”
My spirits were immediately lifted as I realised that, above the drudgery of the day, God's beauty reigns supreme. I felt Him say to me “just look up, above your circumstances, above the routine and the tiredness, and see how much bigger I am than everything you contend with. My beauty shines over it all and dawn will always come. Night always ends with the light of the morning.”
What an encouragement! I began to think about dawn and the biblical references to it. I particularly like this passage:
A new day will dawn on us from above because our God is loving and merciful. He will give light to those who live in the dark and in death’s shadow He will guide us into the way of peace.
Luke 1:78-79 ( GW)
And soon on I go, reminding myself to look up and see things from a different perspective, remembering that whatever is happening in my world, God has got it, and from dullness He crafts a thing of beauty, like no one else can.
