The Secret Of Happiness

Ian Revie

‘He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us.’
Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)

Sometimes I have days where I am unsure about my life purpose & calling, and I love when I hear & read that God has a purpose for our lives, and that we will experience our highest levels of happiness & fulfilment when we discover and begin to fulfil that purpose. But how do we find it?

In my work I enjoy building teams of people, and often use personality profiling to match people to activities and avoid conflicting personalities in each team. Joy & I have done this together also to look at our personal compatibility, and have seen that we are well matched.

We also had a bit of fun with house group a couple of years back, where we used a similar quick online questionnaire to see if we could look into ourselves to see what gifting God has placed in us - it was fun and if you have time have a go: Spiritual Gifts Test - Discover your spiritual gifts!

Finding your right calling is really important - we hear about round pegs in square holes. What kind of work environment brings out the best in you? Do you thrive on routine? Are you motivated by people’s needs? Do you enjoy tackling challenges that might discourage others? How about your relationships? Do you enjoy being part of a team, or do you work better alone? If you only come to life when you’re around people, you will probably be miserable sitting in front of a computer all day.

The Bible says, ‘We are God’s masterpiece… created… anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago’ (Ephesians 2:10, NLT). You’re not just another brick in the wall or another nail in the carpenter’s toolbox!

God ‘personally formed and made you’ (Isaiah 43:7, MSG). You’re the only ‘you’ He created, and if you fail to be who you are, His kingdom won’t benefit from your unique contribution. That’s why Paul wrote:

‘Don’t compare yourself… take responsibility for doing the… best you can with your… life’
Galatians 6:4-5 (MSG)

That’s the secret of happiness.
