Traffic Jams Of Life

Louise Harris

This week I have been in the position of being stuck in slow-moving or even stationary traffic on my way to the office due to road works or accidents.

I am sure you know the feeling of frustration as you need to be somewhere, but there is very little you can do to get there more quickly.

As I was sitting there it caused me to ponder that we regularly encounter traffic jams in life. We know where we want to go but the way is blocked or achingly slow.

Sometimes we might be able to take another route to avoid the stagnation, but often the only thing required is patience & making the best of opportunities presented to us in the meantime.

For me, this means the chance to reflect, reassess, consider and pray. Perhaps to catch up on other things in the car - maybe a podcast, news article, or some music. I personally like to pray in the car, though I'm sure other motorists must wonder what I'm doing as I chat away to my Heavenly Father, telling Him how I feel & remembering to thank Him that I don't have to do this every day!

When we experience blockages or traffic jams in our personal lives, our immediate reaction can be ‘how can I remove this blockage, or perhaps dodge around it?’ Blockages can certainly be removed through prayer. Sometimes however God's timing is not always ours, and we need to trust in His wisdom on this - which is not always easy.

As long as we travel with Him on the journey then we will reach the destination He intends for us, very probably learning lessons & gaining insights along the way.
(One of my worst faults is being an impatient driver, so there's definitely some learning for me there!)

Let's journey through the frustrations of life, knowing that nothing can prevent us from getting to the place He is taking us to.

The Lord will watch over your going out and coming in from this time and evermore
Psalm 121:8 (NIV)

Even though I walk through the darkest valley I will fear no evil for you are with me, your rod and staff they comfort me.
Psalm 23:4 (NIV)

Direct me Lord throughout my journey so I can experience your plans for my life.
Reveal the life paths that are pleasing to you.
Psalm 25: 4 (TPT)
